Last night’s #nye dinner wines: a spectacular magnum of fizz from @ferraritrento and a magnum of albarino from @terrasgauda (both #gifted) plus @thewinesociety1874’s Exhibition Naoussa Xinomavro (great with a very winey beef daube and their glorious Ulysse Cazabonne Sauternes which I recommend you lay your hands on as it’s always going out of stock. Head not too sore this morning amazingly.

People don’t expect wines from the Languedoc to last any significant period of time but this 2005 magnum of @chateaudesestanilles which we opened last night half expecting it to be shot was magnificent - the fruit hardly faded at all despite being kept in less than ideal conditions. And a perfect match for a steak pie! Nice bit of decanting @richardirving5118 (you can see the deposit round the neck of the bottle)

This lighted wreath which I bought in the sale at @coxandcox has been the best addition to my Christmas decs this year. When it arrived it was HUGE - I’d forgotten to take the measurements - but miraculously fitted perfectly over my bedroom mirror where it sheds a magical light over the room.

A very happy - and hopefully relaxing - Christmas to you all with plenty of good books and bottles and all the Christmas films you’ve seen zillions of times before xx
